Elsie Barboza May 03, 2008 12:00 AM NEW BEDFORD — Elsie "Voa" (Espindola) Barboza, 82, of New Bedford died Friday, May 2, 2008, in St. Luke's Hospital, New Bedford after a long illness. She was the wife of the late George Barboza. Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Manuel A. and the late Mary (Mendonca) Espindola, she was a lifelong resident of the city. Elsie was a devoted caregiver to many of her friends. She enjoyed knitting and baking cookies for her family and friends and watching golf and ice skating and spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Judith Barboza, with whom she lived for the past two years in Fairhaven; two grandsons, Jason W. Barboza and his wife, Monica of Freetown and Adam R. Barboza and his wife, Susan of Acushnet; and several dear nieces and nephews. Mrs. Barboza was the mother of the late George Barboza, Jr., and Nancy A. Barboza. She was also the sister of the late Albert and Delphina Espindola and Evelyn Britto. Her calling hours will be Sunday from 2-5 PM in the Donaghy Funeral Home, 465 County Street, New Bedford. He funeral service will be Monday, May 5, 2008 at 10:00 AM in the funeral home followed by interment in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford.
